Shirley grew up in the small town of Jackson, GA, along with her mom, Jackie, who’s now a senior. Shirley has no siblings, and her dad is no longer in the picture, so it’s only Shirley and her mom. In recent years, Shirley has noticed how increasingly difficult it has become to sustain their lives when all the responsibilities fall to her. She works 24-hour shifts as an EMT at the local fire department and barely has time to care for her aging mother properly.
Shirley wishes she could fulfill her mother’s needs and give her the support she deserves to live a good life at home. Finally realizing caring for her mother was beyond her abilities, Shirley discovered the Dream Catcher Senior Living Communities in Jackson, GA. She found it could be an ideal situation through her research, but when Shirley opened up the idea of moving into an assisted living facility to Jackie, she disapproved.
Jackie argued that moving her to a senior living facility was unnecessary because she could care for herself just fine, which Shirley knew was not true. Jackie also mentioned the financial expenses they’d have to cover to move her into a senior community. Most of all, Jackie didn’t want to leave her daughter behind. After all, it was just the two of them.
Shirley listened to her mom’s concerns and understood her point of view. Still, Shirley convinced her mom to go with her to Dream Catcher for a tour. Jackie was still hesitant, but she reluctantly agreed.
On the way to Dream Catcher, Shirley and her mom realized that it was only a few minutes’ drive from the city and that Shirley could still visit her mom often. This thought eased Jackie a bit, knowing that they wouldn’t ultimately be apart.
Upon arriving, the friendly staff and tour guide greeted Shirley and Jackie. From the get-go, they noticed the community’s peaceful and pleasant environment. The facility is very close to nature, on a spacious property surrounded by lush greenery and wildlife. The tour guide explained the benefits of spending time in nature for senior residents, including improving mood and happiness, relieving stress and anxiety, and decreasing feelings of isolation.
Shirley and Jackie discovered that residents have their own space and still get to enjoy their independence. Both of them was impressed by the personal care services, which included medication management, grooming, and in-room personalized care services like housekeeping and laundry. Shirley also likes that the kitchen staff tailors their food to the resident’s dietary needs, ensuring every resident receives a healthy meal daily.
Seeing all the amenities and services, Shirley was convinced that her mother could live a good life at Dream Catcher, surrounded by people who would care for her and support her.
On their way back from the tour, Shirley and Jackie continued their discussion. Her mom realized how this significant change could help both of them. With the reassurance that they could get financial assistance from Medicaid, they agreed that Jackie would move to the senior living community.
With the hope of creating a better life for her mom, where she is properly cared for, Shirley helped Jackie transition to senior living. They made the necessary arrangements and preparations, from packing all the essentials and allowing space to talk about the fears and doubts of the change to helping her mom make her new living space feel like home.
